CHPS improving health care in the society | 03rd September, 2015

A Community Health Nurse has said the CHPS compounds programme has greatly helped in improving the life of rural dwellers.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Akorabo in the Eastern Region, Mr Daniel Adomako, a Community Health Nurse, said the Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds, has benefited many rural dwellers in the preventive health care sector.

“About 34 villages are under the Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) at Akorabo”, he said and called on pregnant women in the catchment area to patronize the CHPS programme.

Mr Adomako said many pregnant women still prefer to deliver in their homes and neglect the CHPS compounds, adding that, this could increase maternal deaths in the area.

“Notwithstanding, the clinic had embarked upon a sensitisation effort to the various communities to explain the importance of the CHPS compounds to the people and to remind them on the need to deliver at the clinic”.

Mr Adomako said Community Health Volunteers (CHV) and Community Health Committees (CHC) were not motivated enough to continue playing their roles as volunteers, as most of them lacked transportation and communication logistics.
