Turkey supports government sanitation agenda | 03rd October, 2017

Mrs Nesrin Bayazit, the Turkish Ambassador to Ghana has affirmed Turkey’s assistance by providing sanitation equipment to the government of Ghana in support of its sanitation agenda.

“The Turkish government is committed to providing equipment to government to enhance the sanitation challenges and improve on its sanitation campaign for effective awareness creation”, she said.

The Turkish Ambassador made this known when she paid a courtesy call on Mr Kofi Ada, the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources in Accra to discuss possible cooperation between the two countries in the area of water and sanitation.

She commended government’s Water Treatment Project in the Central and Eastern Regions, adding that, the move would help promote sustainable water and deal with the sanitation issues faced by the country.

The Ambassador said the government of Turkey was willing to partner with Ghana in every aspect of development to make Ghana a clean country, since Turkey was a “King” in developing projects.

She said in providing a healthy environment, recycling of waste products was an important initiative the country must explore, since most companies in Turkey were interested to support in that aspect of development.

Mrs Bayazit said the Turkish government needs cooperation and therefore would engage most NGOs from Turkey to respond to the projects and learn about more areas that needs technical assistance in Ghana.

Mr Ada said Ghana, as a developing country, managing sanitation issues and providing sustainable water for all had always been the aim of government to ensure healthy living.

He said the visit was timely and called for continuous collaboration between the two countries to enable government to fulfil its promises on sanitation improvement.

The Minister said government was hoping to construct over 25,000 dams across the country and with Turkey having the expertise in that area, he hopes the two countries would cooperate to achieve that.
