Lets support health workers in rural areas - Dr. Letsa | 23rd February, 2018

Archibald Yao Letsa, the Volta Regional Minister has challenged the Ministry of Health to provide logistical support to health workers in rural and difficult-to-reach communities.

He said such supports were the greatest motivation the workers needed to accept and stay in those areas to provide healthcare services to the less privileged.

Dr. Letsa said this at the 2017 Volta Regional Health Sector Annual Performance Review in Ho on the theme “Improving the Health Sector Performance in the Volta Region through Effective Human Resource Management.”

He said the perceived negative attitude of some staff of the health service in the Region towards clients was affecting service delivery and pleaded with them to change that perception, if the nation was to achieve the Universal Health coverage and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal three.

Dr. Timothy Letsa, the Regional Director of Health Services, said the bad human relation between supervisors and employees in the Region was affecting service delivery and promised to help address it.

He said the health performance of the Region in the year under review witnessed mixed performance-gains in some aspects, stagnation in others.

The Regional Director noted that inadequate transport for service delivery; staff accommodation and ineffective monitoring were affecting performance.

Professor Henry Tagbor, Dean, University of Health and Allied Sciences, said effective human resource management was key to development in every human institution and asked management of health facilities to focus on the future and knowledge of their staff.
