This initiative was taken when the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo upon watching the documentary, partnered with The Multimedia Group and started the ‘Save a child, save a mother’ campaign to raise funds for the construction of a befitting unit.

 

The facility which is expected to reduce the mortality rate of mothers and babies at the hospital, will also house the Maternal, Neonatal and Intensive Care units.

 

The new unit has three surgical theatres, which means three women can undergo a caesarean section at the same time, that situation was impossible in the past which made women stay in long queues before they could be attended to.

 

In an interview with ghanahospitals.org, some mothers show appreciation and commended the first lady, Rebecca Akuffo – Addo for taking such initiative.

 

They added that that the facility is  very well kept and very  discipline as compared to the old place which also makes them and their babies feel at home.
