The Israeli Agency for International Development and Cooperation (MASHAV) has presented mechanical weighing scales to the Mother and Baby Units (MBUs) of the Kumasi South and Suntreso government hospitals in the Kumasi Metropolis.
The items were donated with the support from the Alliance for Global Goods under its Millennium City Initiative (MCI) programme.
Mrs Dana Chocron Country Coordinator of MASHAV, speaking at the ceremony said the scales were to help monitor the growth of babies born in the hospitals.
She recalled that, the MBUs of the two hospitals were established by MASHAV in partnerships with the governments of Ghana and the United States of America, to provide quality healthcare for mothers and their babies.
Mrs Chocron praised management and staff of the Units for working hard to promote quality healthcare which had helped reduce maternal and neonatal mortalities at the facilities.
She said the two Units had become models that were being replicated in other health facilities both in Ghana and abroad.
Mrs Chocron said MASHAV was dedicated to providing developing countries with the best of Israeli’s practices and experiences in capacity building, development planning and professional training, especially in the health sector to speed up development.
